The Outdoor Detailer® - Plastic & Glass
 Plastic and Glass

Plastic and glass present a different set of problems. Any liquid coming in contact with these slick, non-porous surfaces can leave smears if it doesn't evaporate immediately.

Keep it simple. To avoid smearing, use an alcohol-based glass cleaner for l ight cleaning on windows and hard plastic. Aftermarket window tinting generally requires an alcohol-and ammonia-free glass cleaner.

Glass often collects mineral deposits (water spots) and stubborn insect residue. Professional glass polishes blend powd ered rock into a light paste. They are perfectly safe to use, and if you apply the polish with a machine, the job can be done in a few minutes.

A specialized polish is also require for dull or lightly marred plastic. Instead of abrasives, plastic polishes use solvents to soften the surface. You can then rub or burnish the plastic to remove light imperfections.
